Most people think of fitted wardrobes as a bedroom job, but the same made-to-measure sliding wardrobes work anywhere a house is short of storage. We have fitted storage on landings, in home offices, garages, laundry rooms and attics, and even in kitchens. The idea is the same in every room: a run measured to the wall, from floor to ceiling, with sliding doors that do not need any space to open.
Landings
Landings are often wide enough for storage but too narrow for hinged doors to open without blocking the way. Sliding doors move across each other, so a run on a landing sits flat against the wall and the walkway stays clear. Inside, you can plan shelves, hanging space and drawers around whatever needs a home, whether that is bedding and towels or coats.
Home offices
In a room that doubles as an office or a spare room, a fitted run gives you somewhere to put everything away at the end of the day. Shelves can hold files and paperwork, and the doors close over all of it, so the room stops feeling like a workplace once you have finished.
Garages
A garage tends to collect everything that has nowhere else to go. A fitted run along one wall, with shelves and hanging space behind sliding doors, keeps it tidy and leaves the floor free.
Laundry rooms
In a laundry room, a fitted run keeps cleaning products, spare bedding and anything else you need close by, and the doors close over it so the room looks tidy.
Attics
Attic rooms have their own challenge, because the ceiling slopes down to a low wall. We build to the line of the roof, so the low end becomes drawers or shoe storage. Our article on fitted wardrobes for loft rooms and sloping ceilings explains how that works.
Doors and sizes
You can choose from mirror, coloured glass and solid panel doors, and mix them in the same run. A single run can be up to 5 metres wide, and with a centre divide we have made runs up to 8 metres wide. The doors can be up to 2,550mm high, and with an infill above them we have fitted storage in rooms up to 3 metres high.
What it costs
Built-in storage is priced in the same way as a bedroom wardrobe, by its size, the doors you choose and the storage inside. Our sliding wardrobes start from £799, and glass door wardrobes start from £999. Our guide to fitted wardrobe costs explains what moves the price.
If you have a space that needs storage, we can measure it at a free home design visit across South Wales and show you a 3D design with a written price. There is no obligation to go ahead.
